About the Director, Dr. Eric Hekler
I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion at Arizona State University and the director of the Designing Health Lab @ASU. My research focuses on how technology, social interactions, and the built environment can be used to promote physical activity and healthful eating and on how best to speed the pace of scientific discovery and translation to impact public health. I received a B.A. in psychology from SUNY Albany, M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology from Rutgers University under the mentorship of Drs. Richard Contrada and Howard Leventhal and I completed my postdoctoral training at Stanford University under the mentorship of Drs. Abby King, Tom Robinson, and Bill Haskell.
My research program focuses on how to use technology to promote physical activity and healthful eating across all levels of the social ecological model. In addition, I’m interested in using interventions as experimental tests of theories and exploring new methods and technologies (e.g., smartphones, cloud computing) for speeding up behavioral science. Information on my past and ongoing can be found here and my publications here.

LocationThe mailing address (listed above) for the lab is in a different location than the lab. The lab can be found at the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative Building 1 (ABC1). See the map next to the right for recommendations on finding parking in the area as well as important related buildings that are part of the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion.
